It is Spring!
I know it is not spring now, but it will be just as soon as we can say, 'a pot full of blooms'. It is cold and dreary but maybe doing this little 'how to' project will get you fired up. This is one project that you are going to need to start now, right now, in order to enjoy it for the spring. It is kind of like saving for when you retire, plan now reap the beauty later (spring). So, lets get down and dirty and get potting up. Are you ready to Rockett!?!?!? |
Items you will need:
- A 12" wide, at least 10" deep pot, you can use any size but will need to adjust the recipe to accommodate the size.
- A good, fluffy potting soil.
- Bulbs, daffodils, narcissus, grape hyacinths and dutch irises.
- Bloom start fertilizer and a dryer sheet, for covering the drain hole so it doesn't get clogged up. (you can even use a used one).
|
So, lets get started.
Get you a pot. Get one that is 12" wide and at least 10" deep. If it is smaller, then reduce the amount you put in it. Put the dryer sheet across the hole and put some soil in, maybe about an inch deep. Add your daffodils. Do not let them touch. Add some soil. Now, add the narcissus bulbs. Make sure not to put them directly over the daffodils. Add more soil. Next, you know what to do, add the grape hyacinths. Guess what's next, that's right, add more soil and then the irises. And more soil.
|
Now, top off the pot with some pansies and/or violas. Water in and wait till spring to get your masterpiece. Keep the pot watered, especially when there are freezing temperatures. Also, put it in at least of 4 hours of sun light.
Remember, please do not get all stressed out over this. I am proud of you for getting into gardening and like my mom always says, 'I am proud of you and you can do it'. Have fun, and have a wonderful day!
